The secret is no other than using organic approaches to get a healthy lawn naturally.

Whether you want resistance from pests or a deeper-root system, there are a number of healthy alternatives for the harmful chemical fertilizer you use on your lawn.

Below we’ve discussed the easiest ways to implement and get a healthy lawn naturally without putting your lawn under stress.

Why Should You Get a Healthy Lawn Organically?

Getting a healthy lawn is a dream for many, but it doesn’t come from tons of chemical-packed food to feed your lawn.

In the US, approximately 70 million pounds of chemical fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides are applied on lawns each year despite the worst effects deep down.

Not only do these chemicals badly disturb the health of your lawn but also pollute the environment by flowing into clean water bodies and contaminating them.

    1. Fix the PH of the soil

Having the right soil’s PH is a crucial step to ensure healthy growth of lawns naturally. You need soil with a balanced PH, neither too acidic nor basic, so you need the least chemicals to improve soil health.

The first step is to test the soil’s PH with a PH meter and fix if the soil doesn’t read to 6.5-7.5, which is the ideal PH for healthy soil.

Different mixtures of soils can also impact the PH, so it’s better to know the type of soil because you do the PH test.

The easiest way to improve the soil’s PH is by spraying alkaline mixtures on the lawn, such as lime juice or powdered limestone on the lawn.

However, a hydrated lawn works quicker, better, and more effectively than any other form and improves your soil PH in no time.

    2. Choose Low-maintenance Grass

Growing low-maintenance grass can also make your lawn beautiful without spending a fortune. Grass types like Zoysia grass, perennial ryes, Kentucky bluegrass, buffalo, and bermudagrass can adapt to a variety of temperatures.

Before you choose any type of grass, make sure to consider factors like climate, amount of sunlight, resistance to external conditions, and time you can dedicate to your lawn.

In best practice, choose low-maintenance grass that requires less fertilization to break the seed dormancy and grow healthy.

    3. Deep Water

Watering the lawn deeply is one of the pre-requisites of lawn care yet a very healthy way to make the roots healthy without using any chemicals.

Feeding the required amount of water to your lawn with the help of a sprinkler can put you at ease from using chemical fertilizers.

Experts suggest watering at a depth of at least 6-8 inches in dry seasons and less in rainy seasons.

When you water regularly, the grass grows on its own and becomes drought-resistant.

As a result, you don’t need to regularly apply fertilizers on your lawn but only when it’s needed. Watering the lawn can also help to avoid compact soil and prevent the arrival of weeds so you can enjoy a healthy lawn organically.

If you don’t know how to water a lawn, we’ve got you covered with this guide that mentions everything you must know about watering a lawn.

    4. Switch To Organic Fertilizer

Organic fertilizers can do wonders in giving you a healthy lawn organically. Once you’ve fixed the minor issues on your lawn naturally, you no longer need chemical fertilizers to fill the lack and improve the soil quality.

Although chemicals can stimulate grass growth, they can leave underlying risks on the soil surface.

Unlike chemical ones, organic fertilizers mostly consist of natural manure and other organic matter that promote healthy grass growth without causing any harm.

However, they work a little slow to create the effect but offer long-term benefits, healthy nutrition and nourishment required for a lawn.

    5. Mowing

Mowing the lawn not only helps to get the lawn in good shape but also removes the unnecessary grubs and shrubs on your lawn.

Cutting the grass regularly with sharp mower blades can reduce the need for chemicals as the soil dries out faster.

For healthy growth, mow high and don’t go below a height of 2 ½-3, and keep the lawnmower blades sharp while cutting.

Mowing regularly can also contribute to an improved and deeper root system while eliminating the need for any chemicals to make the lawn beautiful.

The more you mow your lawn, the healthier it grows with strong drought resistance and better soil quality. Not only this, mulching after you’ve mowed the lawn can restore nutrients back to the soil required for the growth of new grass.

    6. Controlling Weeds

More than half of homeowners use chemicals to control weeds in the lawn, but the same could be done organically too.

Whether the weeds have invaded your lawn or a few miles away, it’s best to find the exact cause that invites weeds into the lawn.

Mowing lawn often and mulching the grass can prevent the entrance of weeds by covering the soil with a layer of organic matter.

Pouring boiling water or a solution of rubbing alcohol on the soil can also limit the arrival of weeds without using any chemicals. For plants, you can spray a diluted solution of vinegar and baking soda or salt mixed with water to kill the weeds naturally.

Kick Pests Out Of Your Lawn!!

Also, keep an eye on pests and treats that have damaged holes and hollow spaces for the weed to come in, sit and damage the lawn. Instead of using insect repellent made up of chemicals, you can experiment with your homemade remedies and fix the damaged areas.

    Conclusion

Organic lawn care is not rocket science if you can dedicate some of your hours to the health and beauty of your lawn.

Once you can see the difference by using organic approaches, never wear your lawn off with chemicals again.

It’s best to start organic lawn care in summer and give the soil time to absorb organic nutrients and grow in the entire growing season.

First, switch to low-nitrogen fertilizers and then reduce the use of chemicals to make the transition to a healthy lawn.

During this time, keep a keen eye on your lawn needs and monitor any noticeable differences to fix things right away before the situation worsens.
